A Little About Me

I started rearing pets since eight years ago. I first started out as a clueless owner, and got my pets without much prior knowledge on them. It was only after reading books did I realise that rearing pets (the proper way) requires more than just our love for them.

I believe if I was equipped with the necessary knowledge on the pets back then, my pets could have very much, benefited from it. However, it was through these life lessons that I learnt to provide for my current pets better. It’s a shame that I had to learn it through the tougher way.

Since three years ago, I have rescued/picked up a few abandoned animals that were in very harsh conditions. One of them was a winter white (hamster) I happened to chance across on the night of Christmas Eve. We decided to name her Hope Eve; because we felt that we gave her hope (and life) on Christmas Eve. The poor girl, housed in an old, dirty and rusty cage, was dumped right at the rubbish chute. The hamster would have been cremated alive in the incineration if no one had found her by then!

A check with the veterinarian revealed that the hamster has a tumour on its stomach. An operation was arranged to remove the tumour, but that was only the start of a series of problems. In the following months, her teeth overgrew and she started to become blind in one eye. It wasn’t long before she became entirely blind. Things took a bad turn when her tumour regrew; we couldn’t decide if we would want to sedate her with anaesthesia as she was relatively old by then. In the end, we decided to let her live the rest of her life with the tumour growth.

It was incidents like this which made me realised how important it was to spread awareness of pet ownership and its responsibility. This was also the reason why I advocate pet adoption, instead of purchasing pets. These abandoned animals deserve a second chance in life.

Animal Matter

How It Started

When I first started out as a dog owner myself, I realise that it was difficult to find relevant information I need. Information were mainly scattered over several forums and website. Even books that I bought or websites that I found, are written in an overseas setting. Therefore certain information like seasonal changes in relation to pets and/or government regulations and rulings do not apply to us.

It’s a rare sight to find books that are written in a Singapore setting. Thus I hope with the set up of this blog, pet owners (first timers especially) will find information that may be of good use to them.

Information on this site is posted based on articles that I have read, researches I have done or experiences I have gained as a dog owner. It doesn’t represent any entity or organisation. Information related to dog’s health or nutrition should not be used as a substitute for medical attention.


Events

I’ll post information on events that are related to animals, like dog walks or road shows so that pet owners can join in the fun with their furries.

Adoption

From time to time, I will also post information on animals that are up for adoption. To potential adopters or fosterers, please note that this blog serves as a medium and I am not the one handling the adoptions. Please refer to the contact person for information.

For rehomers or fosterers, if you need assistance in putting pets for adoption, we can do it for you at no cost. Just drop us an e-mail and I’ll proceed accordingly. However, please note that no monetary transaction should be involved. To be exact, no selling of animals are allowed.

For potential adopters, please contact the rehomers or fosterers at the contact number given, as animal matter is just a medium to help spread the word.
